To increase visual appeal, ensure cleanliness and ease traffic load around the 11th century Lingaraj shrine at Old Town in the city, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Bhubaneswar Urban Knowledge Centre (BUKC) which is an arm of BDA for urban knowledge sharing, will embark on a beautification project.

Apart from relocating the parking lot for the tourist vehicles, the BUKC has drawn up plans to remove unwanted posters and hoardings that give a clutter look.

Sources in BDA said a heritage plaza on the lines of the Golden Temple will be created so that there are better tourist amenities, a religious museum and art galleries. Although these will give a new look, the original heritage value of the place won’t be lost.
