‘Silence is louder than words’, so the saying goes. And Award-winning filmmaker Biswanath Rath’s critically acclaimed silent films have just proven this age-old proverb right.
Adding yet another feather to their glorious International Film Festival journey, multi-award winning social short film ‘The ‘Right’ Glass’ and acclaimed ad-film ‘New Champion’, Written-Directed by Biswanath Rath, executed by his studio BnR Films have been selected as ‘SEMI-FINALISTS’ in ‘International Category’ in ‘Breaking Waves Film Festival’ to be held at Freeport, Canada between 4th-5th Aug 2017. This will mark the Canada premiere of both these films.
Social Short Film “The ‘Right’ Glass” is themed on Child Rights. This silent film, originally made as an entry for “Kallola Short Film Festival’ (organized by UNICEF), went on two receive two awards and Official Selections/Screenings in 38 International Film Festivals within less than two years of its first premiere in 2015. Amongst these 38 IFF, 25 festivals have been held outside India where this film has represented India/Asia. Moreover, in 11 of these 25 festivals, TRG was the only film from India to have been screened. The film has travelled length and breadth of the world and have been appreciated by film festival audience from various countries/continents some of which include: USA, Spain, Italy, UK, France, Australia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Slovenia, Turkey, China, Brazil, Serbia, Kosovo, Bangladesh etc.
Director Biswanath who hails from Jeypore (Odisha) says, “Child labour is one among the many major issues related to Child Rights and happens to be the one widely prevailing. But more than the issue, it’s everyone’s ignorance towards the problem, which worsens this problem. ‘The ‘Right’ Glass’ is an attempt in making everyone realize this harsh reality of our society. “
However, for Ad-film ‘New Champion’, this (Canada Premiere) being the first overseas premiere, certainly holds a distinct place in its festival journey. Made in May 2016, this film was among the ‘Top 30 Ad-films’ in ’48 Hour Film Project ‘Live your moment contest, Mumbai’. In January 2017, the film was selected and screened in ‘Frames Film Festival, Mumbai’. This 1-Minute silent film explores the happiness of discovering joy in little, unguarded moments.
