Fullerton India partners with Sightsavers to launch Vision Care Centre for eliminating blindness for disabled

Fullerton India, one of the leading non-banking financial companies, along with Sighsavers, an International NGO working towards eliminating blindness and promoting equal opportunities for disabled people launches a Vision Care Centre in Bhubaneswar under its Corporate Social Responsibility – ‘Save the Eye’ project, a first-of-its kind initiative by the company for the East market.

The Vision Care Centre will provide access to quality eye care to the economically deprived primary and secondary levels. The services will include eye check-up, vision screening and spectacle distribution at primary level. At the secondary level, it will provide comprehensive end to end eye care facilities like cataract surgeries to patients by connecting with JPM Rotary club of Cuttack eye Hospital and Research Institute. Additionally, the vision care centre will also screen patients for diabetic retinopathy which would be operational in Bhubaneswar.

Bhubaneswar Mayor Anant Naryan Jena graced the inauguration ceremony as Chief Guest. Speaking on the occasion Shri Jena expressed his pleasure over the initiative taken and he expected that common people will definitely be benefited from this centre.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Rakesh Makkar, EVP – Rural and Urban business head of Fullerton India said, “We understand the need of complete eye care and have come up with an innovative solution to address the critical eye care needs of economically weaker sections of the society. We believe these initiatives are directed towards improving community life and therefore our aim is to transform the lives of people by offering them treatment to combat their vision problem. By partnering with Sighsavers, we are moving closer in our endeavour to deliver value to society at large.”

Commenting on the occasion, R N Mohanty, CEO Sightsavers (India) said, “This is a second initiative in a row where Fullerton India is helping Sighsavers in our vision to ensure no one goes blind due to avoidable causes. Odisha has been recognized as one of those states where the need for quality eye health scenario in the country.”

Fullerton India’s rural financial services, Gramshakti has touched the villagers across India through initiatives such as ‘Cattle Care’ camps and ‘Save the Eye’ camps since January, 2008. In November last year, Fullerton India undertook yet another unique initiative to organize India’s largest cattle care event, Pashu Vikas Day that involved over 1,000 Fullerton India employees. Fullerton India also offers livelihood advancement programs through Jeevika, where women are trained for commercial stitching and beauty hair care. In addition the company organizes regular Health Check up camps, tree plantation drives, disaster relief and blood donation drives.
