The much-awaited Wi-Fi facility in bhubaneswar is targeted to be completed within a year as the government has decided to set up 5,000 access points at different locations.

At present, trial run of Wi-Fi is going on at six places here. The service providers and STPI are collecting feedback from people on the Wi-Fi use. The feedback will help us select the service providers. Now, Reliance Jionet, Ortel, Airtel and Infratel are providing the services on a trial basis.

each access point will have an eight-port switch and an UPS, which will be fixed on a street light pole. Every access point will be integrated with fibre cables for seamless access. High frequency access points will be installed at crowded junctions.

BMC will provide right to use the street light poles for installation of Wi-Fi devices. If there are no streetlight poles at the selected locations where Wi-Fi access points will be maintained, then BMC will erect poles there under city street lighting project phase-II, said the government decision. The Wi-Fi connectivity in the entire city is targeted to be completed within a year.
