From actor to scriptwriter and teacher to CEO of a multifaceted production house, Akash Khurana stands out as a rare example of talent and passion married to fervent honesty to his craft. Perhaps one of the few in the industry who have successfully blended academics and creative art to reach a stage where he now shoulders awesome corporate responsibilities as the head of Nimbus, Khurana retains a simplicity that is disarming.

Dr. Akash Chandra Khurana is the Co-Founder of Nimbus Communications Limited. He served as the Chief Executive Officer of Nimbus Communications Limited. since his re-joining in November 1999. Dr. Khurana has over 20 years experience in the media and entertainment industry. Dr. Khurana began his management career in1977 as an executive with Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company Limited (now known as Tata Motors Limited). He took up a parallel career in the media and entertainment industry in the late 1980s. Before that he was already involved in the theatre and is also the founder of the theatre magazine ‘Ovation’. Dr. Khurana serves as the Chairman at Nimbus Communications Limited and he previously served as the Executive Vice Chairman at Nimbus Communications Limited. He has been its Whole Time Director since June 5, 2003. He joined Nimbus Communications Limited at the time of its incorporation in 1987 as a Director and resigned on March 31, 1990. Dr. Khurana made his first screen appearance in Shyam Benegal’s ‘Kalyug’ and went on to play character roles in over 50 films such as ‘Saaransh’, ‘Naam’, ‘Sarfarosh’, and ‘Company’. He won the Nandi Award of Andhra Pradesh for playing the lead in the Telugu film ‘Dr. Ambedkar’. ‘Swayam’ directed by Mr. Mahesh Bhatt marked his debut as a screenwriter. He has written over 20 film scripts, including his best-known work ‘Baazigar’ for which he won the Filmfare Award for Best Screenplay. He has been a visiting faculty member at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences since 1995. He has also obtained a Ph.D. and an M. Phil in Social Sciences from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. He is a Post Graduate in Business Management from XLRI (Xaviers Labour Relations Institute), Jamshedpur. He is a Mechanical Engineering Graduate from the Regional Engineering College, Rourkela.
