With no electricity in Barapitha in Odisha residents of this village has turn to solar energy to ensure uninterrupted power supply Barapitha is a tribal hamlet on the outskirts of capital city Bhubaneswar which is the state’s first village to become “fully solar-powered”.

From street lights to household purposes, villagers depend on solar power for their daily chores

Locales said that life had become much easier for the villagers, who did not have any access to electricity until this October.

The solar project in the village is supported by National Aluminium Company Ltd Every household in the village has been provided two solar home lighting systems.

The street lights and school buildings have been powered with solar lighting system.

Despite Barapitha attaining the status of fully solar powered village, villagers still hoped for electricity connections in the area.

Being in cyclone-prone zone, the solar panels used by villagers are foldable to prevent damage in case of a cyclone.
