State fisheries and animal resources development minister Pradeep Maharathy on Sunday inaugurated third Chilika Fresh outlet in Saheed Nagar area of Bhubaneswar.
State-owned FISHFED, an apex body of all primary fishermen cooperative societies in the state, already opened two such outlets in the city — Siripur Square and CRP Square–which sell fresh fish, shrimp, crab and prawn at reasonable prices to the fish lovers.
Bhubaneswar MP Prasanna Kumar Patasani and fisheries and animal resource development secretary Bishnupada Sethi among others were present during the outlet’s opening.
To cater to the need of fish lovers of Bhubaneswar, the state government set up two hygienic prefabricated fish selling retail kiosks under the brand name of Chilika Fresh at Siripur Square and CRP Square during 2014-15 and 2015-2016, respectively through FISHFED. The state government has also planned to open another 100 kiosks in different district headquarters.
FISHFED’s kiosk, named Hirakud Fresh is under construction in Sambalpur town and will be inaugurated soon. “It is an endeavour to link the producers in the rural areas with the consumers in the urban areas directly while benefiting both categories,” said department secretary Bishnupada Sethi.
