Bhubaneswar Cuttack Police Commisionerate are all set to introduce an e-challan system to penalise traffic violators. In this handheld devices will be used to issue challans on the spot for traffic-related violations. The system will also enable the police to collect penalty through debit cards, credit cards and online banking from the violators. The compounding challan will be printed by the device. This can bring about transparency in the on-the-spot traffic challan system.
The police have already started serving notices for traffic violations detected through CCTVs installed at several traffic intersections in the city. Police officials said that so far, 28,071 violators had been detected through CCTV footage and 19,254 violators served notices to pay the penalty. However, only 4,750 violators have so far deposited the penalty fee with the police.
